Jennifer Gelhaus: What Makes a Great Director of Racquets

When I first entered the tennis teaching profession, I had no idea what a tennis director was. Soon, I learned that it was the title of my supervisor. At the time, I didn’t think much about what they did, and I certainly didn’t dream of becoming one someday. I just knew I loved tennis and I enjoyed teaching it. I quickly realized I would rather spend all day on a tennis court than in a lab. See, before entering the tennis industry, I was working as a lab technician and pursuing a completely different career in science.

Game Match Deep Dive: What’s New and Why It Matters
April 14, 2026

Moderator: Jo Vos, Playbypoint Head of Marketing
With: Ophra Verde, Playbypoint Head of Product
With: Melanie Schonfeld, Playbypoint Head of CX
Watch Time: 37 min

A live walkthrough of Game Match: How it works, how clubs are using it to drive retention and community, and how to get it running at your facility.

54% of new players at a typical club never come back after their first booking. Across tennis, padel, and pickleball. That one number shapes club financials more than almost anything else on the P&L, and most clubs are trying to fix it with pricing.

In this webinar, Ophra Werde and Melanie Schonfeld walk through why retention is a connection problem, not a pricing problem, and how the revamped Game Match feature is built to fix it. No fluff, just the thinking behind the build, a full feature walkthrough, and the early numbers from clubs already running it.

Whether you're a single-location club or a multi-sport facility, this session will help you understand how to get your courts full and your new players coming back, without running another promotion.

The High-Value Insight: The “endangered” status of the traditional tennis club is not a death sentence; it is an evolution. The clubs that disappear will be those that cling to a static, single-sport identity while the world moves toward dynamic, social, and tech-integrated recreation.

The clubs that survive will be those that view their facilities not just as tennis courts, but as a platform for modern lifestyle, community, and performance.
