Why Your Racquet Sports Club Isn’t Showing Up on Google (And What To Do About It)

Right now, someone in your area is searching for a place to play.

They’re typing things like “pickleball courts near me,” “tennis club nearby,” or “padel courts in [city]” into Google. A handful of facilities appear immediately, complete with photos, reviews, hours, and directions. Other clubs — even great ones — barely appear at all.

Not because they lack strong programming or a great community. In many cases, Google simply doesn’t have enough information to confidently surface them in local search results.

For racquet sports clubs, this has quietly become one of the biggest visibility challenges in the industry. Players are actively looking for places to play every single day, but if your club isn’t properly represented online, those players may never know you exist.

One easy channel to activate

The good news is that this is one of the easiest growth opportunities most clubs can improve.

At the center of it all is your Google Business Profile — the listing that appears across Google Search and Google Maps. Think of it as your club’s digital front desk. Before a prospective player visits your website, calls your front desk, or walks through your doors, they’re often making a judgment based entirely on what they see there.

A strong profile helps answer the questions every prospective player is subconsciously asking:

  • Is this club active?

  • Does it look welcoming?

  • Can I picture myself playing here?

  • Does this feel like a legitimate place to spend my time?

That’s why completeness matters. Clubs with accurate hours, updated photos, strong reviews, and consistent information tend to perform much better in local discovery. Google wants to surface businesses it trusts, and active profiles send stronger trust signals than neglected ones.

Claim and verify your profile

One of the first and most important steps is simply claiming and verifying your profile. In many cases, Google has already generated a listing automatically, but until you take ownership of it, the information may be incomplete, outdated, or inaccurate. Hours, map pins, contact information, and even categories can all impact whether players find you in search.

From there, the biggest opportunity is usually adding depth and activity to the profile itself. Photos play a huge role here. Prospective players want to see your actual courts, your atmosphere, your events, and your community. Authentic photos of your facility consistently outperform polished stock images because they help players visualize the real experience before they ever arrive.

Reviews are equally important. For many clubs, reviews have become the digital version of word-of-mouth referrals. A strong collection of recent, thoughtful reviews builds trust quickly, especially for new players deciding where to book their first session or clinic. Consistently responding to reviews — both positive and negative — also signals that your club is active and engaged.

And perhaps most importantly, your profile shouldn’t become something you “set and forget.” Google rewards businesses that continue showing signs of life. Regular updates, event announcements, programming highlights, seasonal offerings, and fresh photos all help reinforce visibility over time.

Club visibility is only half the story

The real opportunity begins after a player discovers you. Once someone finds your club on Google, the next step should feel effortless. The easier it is to explore programming, check availability, reserve a court, or book a session, the more likely discovery turns into an actual visit — and eventually, long-term membership.

For racquet sports clubs, local search is no longer just a branding exercise. It has become a genuine player acquisition channel. Clubs that actively invest in their online visibility are often creating a meaningful competitive advantage over facilities that aren’t paying attention to it yet.

Because somewhere nearby, someone is searching for a place to play right now. And increasingly, Google is deciding which clubs get discovered first.
