How's the Month Going? You Should Be Able to Answer in 30 Seconds.

How's the Month Going? You Should Be Able to Answer in 30 Seconds.

Ask a club owner how the month is going, and you'll usually get a feeling first. "Busy." "A little slow." "Better than last year, I think." Push a little further, and someone goes looking for a spreadsheet.

Those instincts are usually right. A feeling still can't tell you which court hours went empty last week or which members stopped showing up a month ago.

The data was already there

Every booking, payment, cancellation, and new signup leaves a record in your club software. For most clubs, the numbers have existed for years. They've lived in separate reports that someone had to pull and stitch together, usually at month-end, once it was too late to change anything.

Compare every number to the last period

Well-run clubs watch direction. Revenue up 8% on the month and revenue flat for three straight months can land on similar totals, and they call for different decisions. Retention works the same way. Once each number sits next to the period before it, you can tell a real trend from a normal week.

Four numbers worth checking every week

Unsold court hours. An empty court hour is revenue you can't get back. A booking heatmap by hour and day shows where the quiet windows are, so you can price or program into them.

Revenue mix. Knowing how much of your income is recurring membership revenue versus one-off bookings, and which category is sliding, lets you fix it while the month is still open.

Members who've gone quiet. Members rarely cancel out of nowhere. Their activity drops off first. If you can see paying members whose bookings have fallen, sorted by renewal date and monthly value, your staff can reach out while there's still time.

Instructor utilization. Lessons are a big revenue line, and they're hard to compare across staff. Seeing each instructor's hours, utilization, and revenue side by side means scheduling and pay conversations start from the same facts.

Build it into the admin panel

We built CourtReserve Pulse so those numbers are in front of you without running a report. It's a dashboard inside the admin panel that pulls financials, court utilization, member engagement, player demographics, and instructor activity into one view. It refreshes every night, and each key metric is compared to the prior period automatically. A Home tab flags what needs your attention first.

You can also act on what you find. Click into a skill range or a zip code in the demographics view, and that group of players is ready to email or text. When something is worth sharing with a partner or your board, any tab exports as a PDF or CSV.

The takeaway

Your read on your club is probably good. Checking it against current numbers every week gives you something to back it up the next time you change a price or a schedule.

If you're a CourtReserve club, Pulse is included at no extra cost on most plans and sits at the top of the left-hand menu in your admin panel. Open it this week and start with your emptiest hour.

Strikeco

We recently sat down with former World No. 2 Tommy Haas and had the opportunity to have him try Strikeco for the second time.

He's played on every surface around the world. We wanted to know what he'd think of playing real tennis, from home.

"I played for maybe 10 minutes, and I'm in a full sweat, which is incredible. The accuracy, and the way you're feeling how you're actually playing, it's like you're playing real tennis."

— TOMMY HAAS, FORMER WORLD NO. 2

Tommy first saw an early version of Strikeco two and a half years ago. Watching him react to the updated product and get an actual on-court experience from home with Strikeco in under 10 minutes is exactly why we built it.

Strikeco is built for real competition, real training, and real rallies. No court, no partner, no scheduling required. Just pick up a racquet and play.

ZORKOUT - Topspin vs. slice, counted from the wrist

Zorkout turns an Apple Watch into a tennis swing analyzer — forehand and backhand counts, swing speed, and spin (topspin vs. slice), tracked live on your wrist and streamed to a dashboard on your iPhone. No sensor to clip on the racket.

You can set a goal for each metric and look back at every session, so you actually see whether the forehand is getting faster or the slice is creeping in — all synced with Apple Health.
