Monday Morning Club Quarterback

MONDAY MORNING CLUB QUARTERBACK
Private Members Club & Sports Talk

Ed Shanaphy, President, CEO - Beyond The Baselines, Management consultant to the private members club and boutique hotel industries, Club President, Club Governor, and Private Club Leader at the Institute of Club Directors.
Every Monday 9am EST Live & On Demand

So far in October, we listened to some interesting conversations. Very relaxed, Ed wants to know what happened in your club over the weekend, and volunteers his own thoughts within a 20-minute webinar. Did you know Ed Shanaphy is a drummer? On October 13, he shared marketing ideas to sell programming like Liveball. On October 20, the discussion was about DUPR ratings and club/member ramifications. On October 27, Ed discussed his wins and losses on the weekend. His win: Big charity tournament went well, and the club made money despite $6,000 prize money. The loss: He didn’t expect that many visitors and could have opened the restaurant earlier. “Big issue for us a managers: How to gauge an audience.”

Ed has listeners tuning in from all over the world, even from China, where it’s 9 pm.
If you sign up and can’t make it, you can get a recording, and it's free for 12 weeks. Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ElHjTADaSzOC8LqozaucbA

PTR Webinar with Dr. Anne Pankhurst

(for members)

“Growth, Development and Maturation”

Throughout the webinar, it was evident that Dr. Pankhurst is a hugely experienced professional. She calls Growth, Development, and Maturation GDM and describes it as the changes every young person is going through, but (did you know?) sometimes at different ages for different players of the same chronological age.

Dr. Pankhurst answered a lot of questions, such as

  • What is growth? What is maturation?

  • What does it mean for boys and girls?

  • When does the growth spurt happen in every child?

  • When do you ideally want to teach a child?

  • Why is skeletal maturation important?

  • What are biological markers, and why are they important?

2025 RSPA Virtual Tennis Business Conference

Two days, 12 speakers, great content. The conference, which offered 8 education credits, included sessions on topics like mental toughness, engaging adult events, pickleball development, and business management for racquet sports programs. Those who could not attend live could watch recordings for up to three weeks afterward.

One of many excellent presentations::

Jenny Gray is the Director of Tennis at The Club at Sonterra in San Antonio, Texas, an RSPA Board member, and an RSPA Master Professional. Her presentation clearly reflected her 29 years of experience as a tennis professional, including 17 years in a leadership role as Director of Tennis. Throughout her talk, she frequently reinforced key points with real-life examples drawn from her current work at the club in Texas.

Some key points:

  • Relationships are the cornerstone of happiness.

  • It’s never too late to build connections.

  • Health & longevity are linked to relationships.

  • Create good events - they spark engagement.

  • Themed events & decorations drive success.
Example: Dinko de Mayo, 4th of July Powerball,
Hit for the Heart, Rally for the Cure, Shamrock Smash,
The Sonterra Classic, Toys from Tennis, Wimbledon Whites,
    FUNdraising, and…. my favorite:

Jenny ended the presentation asking: How do Your Events Spark Engagement?
